Orders & payments

Order settings

Decide what you accept, how customers can pay, how long orders take, and how many receipts print.

These are the rules your online ordering runs on, and between them they decide what a customer is able to do when they reach your checkout. Open Settings, choose your location, and then Orders. You can also get to the same page from the Settings tab on the Orders page.

Everything here belongs to one location, which means two branches of the same business can run completely different rules if that is what suits them.

What you accept

  • Allow Collection Orders lets customers order and come and pick it up themselves.
  • Allow Delivery Orders lets customers order to an address.

Switching either of these off hides that option at the checkout immediately, so this is the setting to use when your delivery driver is off sick and you want to keep taking collection orders.

How customers pay

You set the payment methods separately for collection and for delivery, because the two situations are not the same:

  • Accept Cash on Collection and Accept Card on Collection
  • Accept Cash on Delivery and Accept Card on Delivery

Many restaurants turn off cash on delivery so that drivers are not carrying money around late at night. When you do that, card simply becomes the only way to pay for a delivery and the cash option disappears from the checkout.

Fees

Service Fee Amount adds a fixed charge to every order, in your location’s currency. If you do not charge one, leave it at zero and no fee line appears on the customer’s order at all.

How long orders take

  • Minimum Collection Time is the shortest wait a customer can be quoted. Set it to however long your kitchen honestly needs on a normal evening, because a quote you cannot meet turns into a complaint.
  • Maximum Collection Time is the longest.

Dinerly quotes each customer a time somewhere inside that range. When you are suddenly slammed, you do not need to come back here and edit these numbers: you can push today’s times out temporarily from the Home page and they go back to normal by themselves.

Preorders and advance notice

Allow Collection Preorders and Allow Delivery Preorders let customers place an order now for a time later on, which is how an office orders its lunch at nine in the morning.

Collection Advance Notice and Delivery Advance Notice then control how far ahead they are allowed to book one in. If you would rather not have people ordering for next Saturday, because your menu or your staffing might have changed by then, turn preorders off altogether.

Receipts

Receipt Language sets the language your printed receipts come out in, and it is deliberately separate from the language your dashboard is in. That way a Greek-speaking kitchen can print Greek receipts while the office works in English on the same system.

Receipts With Numbers and Receipts Without Numbers control how many copies of each type print for an order, up to three of each. At least one receipt has to print in total, so Dinerly will not let you set both to zero.

A sensible starting point is one receipt with numbers for the kitchen and one without for the customer. Only add more copies if somebody genuinely needs one, because every extra copy costs you paper and keeps the printer busy while the next order is waiting.
