Tables, covers and walk-ins
Seat a table on the till, change how many people are on it, and move a bill to another table.
When you start a Dine In order, the till shows you your table plan rather than the menu. That is because a dine-in order belongs to a table rather than to a person, and the till needs to know which table before it can do anything else.
Seat a table
- Tap the table the customer is sitting at.
- Enter how many covers there are, which simply means how many people are on the table, and tap Start order.
- The menu opens and you can ring the order up as normal.
Tables that are already in use are marked Occupied. Tapping one of those takes you straight back to that table’s existing bill, which is how you add another round to a table that is already eating.
Someone walked in without booking
You do not need to create a booking for a walk-in. Seating them on a free table in the till is enough: Dinerly marks that table as a walk-in and shows it on the reservations floor for the rest of the team. That way the person managing the door can see the table is taken and will not promise it to somebody arriving at eight.
Moving a table
If the guests move to the bigger table by the window, you do not have to ring the order up again:
- Open the bill.
- Go to the Actions tab and tap Move.
- Tap the new table.
The whole bill moves with them, including anything that has already gone to the kitchen, so the food still arrives on the right table. You can only move a bill onto a table that is free; if you tap one that is occupied, the till tells you so and asks you to choose another, because it will not merge two separate bills by accident.
The number of covers was wrong
Open the bill, go to Actions, then Details, and change the number of guests there. It is worth correcting even when the bill itself is right, because your reports divide what a table spent by the number of covers to work out what an average guest is worth to you. If the covers are wrong, that figure is wrong too, and it is one of the numbers owners lean on most.
No tables on the screen?
The table plan is something you draw once, in Settings → Tables, where you lay out your rooms and place your tables in them. Until that is done the till has no floor to show you, which is why the screen can look empty. See Set up your floor plan and tables for how to build it.
