Receipt copies, language and style

Decide how many receipts print, in which language, and whether they carry your branding.

How many copies

Every printer has two separate settings for how many copies it produces:

  • Receipts with Numbers are the copies that include item numbers, which is what most kitchens use to call dishes out during service.
  • Receipts without Numbers are the plain copies, and they are usually the ones that go to the customer.

They are set per printer rather than for the whole restaurant, which means your kitchen can take two numbered copies while the counter prints a single plain one. Dinerly requires at least one receipt in total, so you cannot accidentally set a printer to produce nothing at all.

You can also set defaults for the whole location in Order settings.

Language

Receipt Language, which lives in Order settings, decides the language your printed receipts come out in. It is deliberately kept separate from the language your dashboard is in, so that your office can work in English while the kitchen prints its tickets in Greek.

Receipt style

Each printer can print in one of two styles, and the difference between them is worth understanding because it affects how fast your service runs.

Designed prints your full branded receipt, with your logo, your fonts and your layout. To do that, the receipt has to be sent to the printer as an image, which takes around a second longer to start printing.

Fast text uses the printer’s own built-in font instead. It starts almost instantly and sends far less data, at the cost of the logo and your custom fonts. The layout stays as close to your designed receipt as the printer is capable of.

A sensible arrangement for most restaurants is to use Designed for customer-facing receipts, because that is the one the customer takes home with them and it is worth having your name on it, and Fast text for kitchen tickets, because a second per ticket adds up over a busy service and nobody on the grill has ever cared about your logo.

If your kitchen printer feels sluggish on a busy Friday, switching it to Fast text is the first thing to try.

Test after every change

There is a Test print button next to each printer, and it is worth using after any change to the number of copies, the language or the style. It takes about five seconds and it shows you exactly what your customers and your kitchen are going to get, which is far better than finding out from a customer that their receipt came out in the wrong language.
